Welcome to the Gifted Education page!  My name is Carol Snyder, and I am the gifted education facilitator for Creekside Middle School.  I coordinate the programming and Advanced Learning Plans (ALPs) for the gifted students at Creekside.  I also teach an elective course called "Opportunities and Challenges" at all three grade levels.  My contact information is as follows:

Gifted Education Announcements
UNC Summer Enrichment Program
University of Northern Colorado is offering its 33rd year of summer programs for gifted, talented and creative students entering grades 5 - 10.  It is a two-week residential program offering sessions in art, creative writing, dance, math, technology, drama, music, and other fields.  Some scholarships are available, and deadline for scholarship applications is March 5.  Deadline for applications for the program is June 15.

Math Zoom Summer Camp
Students between the ages of 12 and 17 are encouraged to apply.  Camps are held in Los Angeles area and Charlotte NC area in July and August.  Information available at:

Junior National Young Leaders Conference
Current 6th grade students who are interested in learning leadership skills may want to look at this opportunity for a conference in Washington DC over the summer.  Students will learn skills about teamwork and goal setting, learn about history through travel to several famous locations and monuments, and participate in activities such as public speaking.

If you would like your child to be nominated for this experience, please let me know as soon as possible.  I can also get you handouts with curriculum and dates.  The deadline for nomiations is Feb. 19.  More information, including fees and scholarship information, is available at:

Parenting Night Powerpoints and Handouts Available
Were you unable to come to the Parenting Night, or not able to get to all the sessions you wanted?  All of the power points, and some of the handouts, are now available on the district web site.  Here is the link:

Young Scholars Program - Jack Kent Cooke Foundation
This is an opportunity for high achieving 7th grade students with unmet financial need - "dream your educational dream and let the Foundation help you make it a reality."

11th Annual Legislative Day
Thursday, February 18th, 2010 is the date for the 11th annual Legislative Day at the Capitol.   This opportunity is for 8th grade students only.  Students will be able to apply to shadow a legislator and view first-hand how the legislative process works.
